By Cynthia Littleton According To The variety Edgar Bronfman Jr. has abruptly dropped his eleventh-hour bid for Paramount Global. The decision came as the clock ticked down on the time frame within which his group had to finalize a firm offer that could be a viable alternative to Skydance Media’s pending takeover agreement. Late Monday, Paramount Global’s special committee handling its long M&A process issued a statement closing the door on the company’s “go-shop” period and expressing its intent to move forward with the Skydance Media deal. The committee noted in a statement that “contacted more than 50 third parties” to see if there was interest in bidding for the storied owner of Paramount Pictures, CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, BET, VH1, Comedy Central and more. “On behalf o...

‘Ted Lasso’ Eyes Season 4 Greenlight With Main Cast Members Returning

News
By Michaela Zee According To The variety “Ted Lasso” is heading towards a Season 4 greenlight, Variety has confirmed. Warner Bros. Television has picked up the options on original cast members Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift. It’s believed that Jason Sudeikis is involved in the revival in some capacity as an executive producer. Warner Bros. TV declined to comment. Waddingham, Goldstein and Swift are known at this time because they are U.K. Equity members, and have different deals than the U.S. SAG-AFTRA cast. Those negotiations will happen next. Talk of a “Ted Lasso” revival has been in the air since the show ended its run. Back in January, Warner Bros. TV CEO Channing Dungey teased to Variety the possibility of the series conti...
Inside Out 2’ Becomes First Animated Film to Hit $1 Billion at International Box Office

Inside Out 2’ Becomes First Animated Film to Hit $1 Billion at International Box Office

News
By Rebecca Rubin According To The variety “Inside Out 2” has surpassed $1 billion at the international box office, one of 12 releases — and the only animated film — to ever cross that coveted milestone. Though 55 films have grossed $1 billion globally (which is comprised of domestic and international ticket sales), just a dozen have managed to hit that benchmark from overseas markets alone — and 11 of those movies were live-action. While Disney’s 2019 “The Lion King” earned a staggering $1.1 billion internationally, the studio has categorized the remake as live-action rather than computer generated, so “Inside Out 2” is technically the first animated release to join the coveted club. Getting to $1 billion means “Inside Out 2” has resonated pretty much everywhere, but the top forei...

Box Office: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Returns to No. 1 in Fifth Weekend as ‘The Crow’ Bombs and ‘Blink Twice’ Stumbles

cinema
By Rebecca Rubin According To The variety After a blip that allowed another film to sell some tickets, “Deadpool & Wolverine” returned to the top of box office charts in its fifth weekend of release. Marvel’s superhero adventure towered over the (albeit anemic) competition as two newcomers, “The Crow” and “Blink Twice,” misfired in their debuts. Director Zoe Kravitz’s twisted thriller “Blink Twice” led among new releases but faltered in fourth place with $7.3 million from 3,067 theaters. Meanwhile, Lionsgate’s R-rated reboot of “The Crow,” starring Bill Skarsgård as a murdered musician who is resurrected to avenge the deaths of himself and his fiancée, bombed with $4.6 million from 2,752 theaters to open in eighth place. Critics were fonder of “Blink Twice” compared to “The ...

Breaking Down ‘The Crow’: Inside the Reboot’s Provocative Ending, Bone-Crushing Fights and Potential Sequels

News
By William Earl According To The variety SPOILER ALERT:This article contains spoilers for the entire plot of “The Crow,” now playing in theaters. Director Rupert Sanders knows that “The Crow,” his third film, will inevitably be seen through the spectrum of nostalgia for the 1994 cult hit. “I just wanted to make something,” he says. “I knew there would be people who didn’t want it to happen. But I didn’t record over someone’s VHS — that movie’s still there and those people are still going to love that movie.” Yet Sanders is confident in his new vision of the antihero. In his film, Eric (Bill Skarsgård) and his fiancée Shelly (FKA Twigs) are murdered by crime boss Vincent Roeg (Danny Huston). Yet Eric is offered the chance to walk the earth again as a powerful, dark vig...
Megalopolis’ Trailer’s Fake Critic Quotes Were AI-Generated, Lionsgate Drops Marketing Consultant Responsible For Snafu

Megalopolis’ Trailer’s Fake Critic Quotes Were AI-Generated, Lionsgate Drops Marketing Consultant Responsible For Snafu

News
By Gene Maddaus, Katcy Stephan According To The variety Lionsgate has parted ways with Eddie Egan, the marketing consultant who came up with the “Megalopolis” trailer that included fake quotes from famous film critics. The studio pulled the trailer on Wednesday, after it was pointed out that the quotes trashing Francis Ford Coppola’s previous work did not actually appear in the critics’ reviews, and were in fact made up. Sources tell Variety it was not Lionsgate or Egan’s intention to fabricate quotes, but was an error in properly vetting and fact-checking the phrases provided by the consultant. The intention of the trailer was to demonstrate that Coppola’s revered work, much like “Megalopolis,” has been met with criticism. It appears that AI was used to generate th...
